School Sports Essays - Shooting Guards, , Term Papers

School Sports My editorial is how the seriousness for school related sports has decreased. Sports aren't what they used to be. People who say things like " people are taking these sports too seriously" or " the sports are meant to be fun", I think, should rethink their opinion. Of course, they are taken seriously, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't fun. Personally I love all of the yelling and confusion that goes on all around sports, whether it's on TV, or the court, or on the field. I also think that nowadays they aren't being taken seriously enough. These days sports have become much more that what they used to be. I looked up the word ?sports' in the dictionary, and this is what it said: 1. an amusing or interesting activity 2. a physical activity especially one with a set form and body of rules My definition of sports: 1. a political game Why? You may ask, do I call it this. The first reason is the coaches. Take basketball for example. I've gone to a couple of my sister's basketball games (she's in 5th grade) and noticed that she has gone to every single practice, and yet, still sits the bench for most of the game. She has two coaches and both of them have daughters on the team, and both of their daughters play all of the game. Even though (I think) that my sister is a little bit better than those two. My father told me that when he was in 8th grade, he had coaches that had coached the teams for years and years. Not player's parents. Now, don't get me wrong I have no problems with players parents coaching their son's or daughter's team (because I have on right now) but I don't like when they aren't fair. Some of the parents go to their child's practice and ?make friends' with the coach, or suck up to them. When I was in 4th and 5th grade, my dad coached our team and I never ever played more than any other kid did on that team. Another thing that isn't taken seriously enough are the refs. Again, player's parents are refereeing their own children's games. That's like being in a class with your mom as the teacher. These refs also shouldn't carry personal issues onto the court, for example: if I were to not be one of the greatest friends with one of the referees, that still gives him no right to just pick on me during the whole game. I hope this paragraph about the refs, and the rest of this article is having action taken against them.

Free Essays on Race And Ethnic Relations

In â€Å"The Study of Race and Ethnic Conflict† the main idea of the article seems to be to get students to understand different racial and ethnic terms that are used and why they are used in different ways. It also seems to be to help students to understand the terminology that they will be reading throughout the book and its articles. It seems very void of opinion and other direct questions other than to says that the only steady thing that America has done to consistently separate whites and minorities is to offer no way for whites to consider themselves as anything but white. On all census information and questionnaires the basic questions about race that we are used to answering are flawed because they offer only ways for people to distinguish themselves outside of the white population. The authors also make the point that while many different venues of study have all different ideas and that the people within those venues have ideas that differ from one another, students should realize this and not take any one idea or area of study to be the exact and perfect truth. In the article, â€Å"Classifying People by Race† the author make much of the same arguments, but goes into more depth about them. She identifies four major themes that are flaws in categorizing people by race and ethnicity. The first one she talks about is â€Å"the pattern of spreading the population into two groups: white and nonwhite.† In this section she talks about the historical problem of allowing to few categories in questionnaires for people to give an accurate account of what they consider themselves to be. The second section talks about â€Å"a belief in racial purity† and that it is wrong for us to expect of hope that people will be of one race or ethnicity because we believe it is somehow better when a vast majority of people all over the world and especially in America consider themselves to be of mixed ethnicity whether is be different European ... Employment Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words - 2

Employment Law - Essay Example or not? If it is proven that he is a regular or permanent employee, his right for continuing in the job would be very genuine unless he is indulged in illegal activity or unethical practice at work place. Various tests have to be applied for determining the nature of job performed by Tom. In the contract, it was mentioned that he was not able to avail the sick leave and pension benefits which suggests that he is not a regular employee. Moreover, Tom was assured of at least 20 training sessions which also indicates that his job is more of a contractual in nature. In case of his inability to attend the sessions due to his sickness, there is a clause for substituting him with another personal trainer with the permission of the company. This also indicates the intention of the company to utilize the services of the personal trainers on contractual basis. If one trainer fails, the other one should take care and as long as this process continues, the company will not have to bother about t he job of any personal trainer. Hence, in this context, the company has to clarify on which specific grounds, Tom was terminated and it has to explain the reasons for its conclusion on poor job performance. According to the contract law, once the agreement was made, the terms and conditions should be accurately followed and in cases of minor exceptions sufficient justification has to be provided. If it is not based on the proper justification, Tom should file case against Unfit Ltd. For removing him which comes under unfair practice. The case can be filed against the Unfit Ltd. as it violated both English contract law and unfair contract terms act (1977) (Ole Lando et al., 2003 ). The length of service is not in favor of Tom as it is very short i.e. one year and hence his nature of job may not be considered as regular and hence he will not be entitled to pension and other retirement benefits as declared by the company in its regulations. In addition, he was made responsible for his tax payment and insurance payment and he rather agreed to work on self employed basis to get tax benefits which indicates that he is not a regular employee in the company. His working conditions would be completely guided by the contract made between him and the Unfit Ltd. However, it doesn’t give any right to company to remove an employee with out quoting proper and logical reason. In the present case study, the company abuses that Tom terminated with immediate effect due to persistent poor job performance. However, more specific details are not available and there is a need for the company to prove this and then only the termination of Tom may be considered as fair. Hence, Tom may file a case against Unfit Ltd. As it violated the principles of European contract law (The commission on European contract law, 1999) In addition, the removal process must be in conformity with the contract clauses made between the Unfit Ltd. and Tom. There are different clauses like requirement o f wearing an uniform supplied by the company, requirement of utilizing the company’s equipment and support staff, allocation of atleast 20 sessions for personal training of the company’s employees. In the present case, there is no evidence that Tom violated any one of these clauses and hence his termination is illogical and he can claim in court of law against the Unfit Ltd. for unfair dismissal. The company dismissed Tom with out any notice which is also not fair and violation of the contract made
